What is Ericksonian Hypnosis?

Ericksonian Hypnosis is a form of hypnotherapy developed by Milton H. Erickson, an American psychiatrist and hypnotherapist. Throughout history worldwide known as narrative therapy or conversational hypnosis.

It’s different to other methodologies by using indirect suggestion and often a storytelling approach to induce trance states and facilitate positive changes.

With Ericksonian hypnosis, the therapist controls the narrative used to bring about change.

Using metaphors, anecdotes, stories and suggestions to help clients access their subconscious mind and tap into their inner helpers, Their Sympathetic Nervous, system.

This approach focuses on empowering clients to find their own solutions and make meaningful changes in their lives.

Most important methodologies used are:

Distraction :

Staring at an object or deep breathing. Distracting from problems, moods or bad feelings. Taking a person’s mind away from problems.

Indirect suggestions:

Rather than direct commands, the therapist uses subtle, suggestive language to influence the client’s subconscious mind.

Storytelling:

Metaphors and anecdotes are used to convey messages and facilitate change on a deeper level.

Client-centered:

This approach focuses on the client’s unique experiences, needs, and goals. Scripts are therefore composed for each and every client.

The therapist works with the client’s existing behaviors, thoughts, and emotions, rather than trying to change or resist them.

Metaphors :

Ericksonian hypnosis is often used to address issues like stress, depression, anxiety, phobias, and habits, whilst enhancing personal growth and well-being.

It’s a very gentle and non-invasive approach.

It has proven to Hypnotherapists today to be one 9f the most effective methodologies with no side effects. Lasting in nature, as a person is taught to continue the feelings and experiences by themselves after consultations and many people find it helpful in achieving goals and improving their mental and physical health.
